Milestone

It was a sunny day, the rays of the sun passing through the window screen lightened my room.
I went outside and I saw the cumulus clouds forming in the sky. The scene I saw was very refreshing, looking at the clouds made me smile and the feeling of excitement came rushing down from my system. After few minutes, I knew why I was feeling this way. It was one of the biggest and memorable days of my life- it’s my graduation day.

I was busy, I prepared everything needed. I glanced at the long hanging white robe every now and then. I pictured myself wearing it. My mother told me that she can't make it, she can't attend to my graduation ceremony, my aunt will come and be my parent and that was sad. I simply ignored the realization, “today is my day and I will not let it be ruined”, I encouraged myself.

The ceremony begun, everything was all set and the graduation song was played while we marched. There were familiar faces, friends, families and teachers were all there to witness the ceremony. They were all smiling. They were all wishing us good luck. I sat on my designated seat with overwhelming joy in my heart. I searched for old friends, for teachers and former classmates. I wanted to picture them at that moment because I felt the same way as they do.  The ceremony lasted for almost four hours but there were no dull moments, as if every minute is precious. The programmed activity was well organized. Every word I heard from the speakers are important. “There was a time when I am also seated in one of those chairs” one of the speakers left this message for us.  I believed in what he tried to imply in those sentence. He had undergone the same process just like us and that he was also once a dreamer and now he’s an inspiration. Then another bittersweet moment took place. We cried, we hugged each other and said our goodbyes. Smiles left us and tears of joy took place. I had realized why this stage of life is memorable, why anyone would wish to be a high school student. In this stage I had done the things I didn’t think I was capable of, both good and bad.  After all the difficulties I’ve had, all the pain I’ve had endured, I finally ended up in this scene, a milestone.

I knew then that high school life is over, that was the end of the chapter and that another chapter was about to begin, a more serious life own my own.
